Mrs. Fannie B. Shook

Mrs. Fannie B. Bradley Shook peacefully completed her earthly journey and entered into eternal rest on July 3, 2026, leaving a legacy of faith, education, and service. Her life was a beautiful testimony to Christian devotion, and a belief in the power of learning and helping others. Born on January 31, 1938, to Reverend Archie Bradley and Mrs. Maggie Bradley, Fannie was the fifth of nine children. From her earliest years, she displayed a joyful spirit and a deep love for music. Family members often recalled hearing her hum and sing long before she was old enough to understand the profound role faith and worship would play throughout her life. Raised in the loving fellowship of New Sardis Baptist Church, Fannie grew both spiritually and personally. The church helped shape her character. At the age of twelve, she publicly professed her faith and united with New Sardis Baptist Church, where she served as a lead choir singer and devoted Bible student. As a young woman, Fannie was admired for her grace and dignity. Family members affectionately remembered her as the “prim and proper” child. She took pride in her appearance, her speech, and her conduct, yet she never allowed that pride to overshadow her caring heart. Fannie attended Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee, following in the footsteps of her older brother and sister. While at Lane College, she became a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Majoring in Elementary Education, Fannie quickly distinguished herself as an exceptional student. Mrs. Essie Perry, Chairperson of the Education Department, was so impressed by Fannie’s extraordinary penmanship that she invited her to teach manuscript writing to other students. Fannie graduated in 1961, prepared to answer her calling as an educator. On August 3, 1970, Fannie united in holy matrimony with Michael Shook. Their marriage was built upon faith, love and devotion. Their greatest blessing arrived in October 1978, with the adoption of their only child, Marjanee´. Fannie dedicated more than forty years of service to the Kansas City, Missouri School District, where she became a beloved educator and Reading Specialist. She was affectionately known as “the teacher who could teach a rock to read.” Her classroom reflected her creativity, excellence, and love for children. For more than fifty-seven years, Fannie faithfully served as a member of Paseo Baptist Church. She actively participated in Sunday School, sang in the choir, served through the Dorcas Circle missionary ministry, and enjoyed fellowship through the Ethel Page and Company Gospel Group. Fannie courageously faced the challenges of Alzheimer's disease. Though the illness gradually stole many cherished memories, it could never erase the extraordinary impact of her life. Through every season of her journey, her devoted husband, Michael and daughter Marjanee´, remained faithfully by her side. Her sisters, pastor, family members, and friends surrounded her with love, prayers, encouragement, and support. Today, while our hearts grieve her absence, we celebrate a life beautifully lived. We rejoice knowing that Fannie fought a good fight, finished her course, and kept the faith.
