Evelyn Perkins

Obituary Evelyn Roberta Perkins, 94, passed away on January 26, 2021. She was born September 20, 1926 in Kansas City, Kansas to Robert Watkins and Myrtle Robinson Watkins. Her parents, brothers Robert (DeeDee), Harold, and Wilbert (Stump); two sisters Theradene and Hazel; husband Lacey Perkins; and great-grandson Ronell, Jr. preceded her in death. Evelyn was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was recognized as the matriarch of the family…classy, sassy, stylish, high heels-wearing, and vibrant. She was the champion of the family in expressing our need to stay together, love each other, and pray together. She was also a diehard Royals fan! As a young child, Evelyn first attended Second Baptist Church in Argentine, KS. Later, she became a member of Mount. Zion AME Zion Church, just a walk down the street from Second Baptist. Her last stop was Metropolitan AME Zion Church in Kansas City, MO. Evelyn loved the Lord and her church. She was a staunch Missionary; serving as a local President at Metropolitan and also a Kansas City District Missionary President. She sang her heart out as a long-time member of the Sr. Choir and was a member of multiple other auxiliaries. Evelyn was the cafeteria manager at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School for over 28 years. After retiring, she decided to go back to work and started working at Center High School. Her students, teachers, and administrators loved “Mrs. Perkins” because she took care of them. Left to cherish her memory are her sons Walter Herbert Bailey Jr. of Detroit, MI and Robert Bailey Sr. (Arlene) of Kansas City, MO; sisters Loretta Mosley of Dallas, TX and Myrtle West of Kansas City, MO; one brother George Watson (Marilyn) of Grandview, MO; two grandsons, Robert Bailey, Jr. and Ronell Bailey; seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members. Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Friday, February 5th at Watkins Heritage Chapel 4000 Emanuel Cleaver Blvd KCMO 64130. Visitation 10am. Interment Floral Hills Cemetery.
