Mother Ernestine McBride, passed away on October 27, 2025. Ernestine McBride, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, was a soul truly heaven-sent, an angel on earth who blessed every life she touched. She passed away peacefully at the age of 99, leaving behind a vast and beautiful profound legacy of love and service. She was born on July 5th, 1926, in Guthrie, Oklahoma, to her late parents William Penn Sr. and Leola Penn. During her middle school years, Ernestine moved with her family to Kansas City, where she would spend much of her life. It was there, at the age of 16, that she discovered her lifelong passion for sewing—a skill she learned in school and carried with her for decades. Her love for sewing and hat-making was well-known, as she joyfully created beautiful, handmade pieces that were always infused with her creativity and boundless care. These creations weren't just garments; they were tangible expressions of her love and desire to serve others. In addition to her talents with needle and thread, Ernestine worked as a Beautician for many years, a role through which she offered not just a new look, but also a listening ear and a dose of her signature warmth. Her deep, unwavering faith in God guided her every step, shining through as warmth, kindness, and a powerful, dedicated spirit of service for everyone she encountered. Her generous spirit was a gift, making everyone feel seen, valued, and cherished. Ernestine was united in marriage to the late O.D. McBride, who preceded her in death. Together, they raised a loving family and built a home filled with faith, laughter, music, and the constant rhythm of a God-centered life. She was the devoted mother of Lillian McBride, O.D. “Billy” McBride, Waymon McBride, and Michael McBride. Her children Lillian, Michael, and O.D. “Billy” preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved siblings Bertha Mae, Josephine, Mable, James, Napoleon, William, and Floyd. Cherishing Her Memory Ernestine’s heaven-sent spirit and enduring legacy will be eternally cherished by her loving son, Waymon McBride, and her daughters-in-law Wadandra McBride, and Faye McBride. Ernestine's profound legacy of love and service continues through her beloved grandchildren: Waymon McBride, Necole McBride (children of Faye and Waymon McBride), Aliyah McBride, Ashley McBride (children of Waymon and Wadandra McBride), Dominique McBride, Michelle McBride, Kimberly McBride, and “Butchie”; great-grandchildren: Carl McBride, Christian McBride, Dominique Burrell, Dallas Johnson, Bryanna Burrell, Daliyah McBride, Bryleigh Burrell, Aden Dorsey, Major Warren, and Zaiya Benton; and great-great-grandchildren: Evee, Christian, Clementine, and Hermione McBride. She also leaves behind a host of loving nieces and nephews who will forever treasure her wisdom, laughter, and the unconditional love she so freely gave. Her life was a rich, vibrant tapestry of love, strength, and faith—a shining example of grace and devotion that will continue to inspire generations. The Lasting Whisper of Her Heart More than anything, her last, loving words to all her family and friends will forever echo in our hearts: “I love you more.” This cherished saying, a testament to her beautiful, giving heart, will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to hear it.
