Ms. Eria F. McGee

Eria Faye (Denson) Mc Gee was born on July 31, 1938 in Davis, Oklahoma to the union of Henry Perry Denson and Stella Mae Cohee. She was the oldest of six children born to this union. Eria Faye was preceded in death by both of her parents, her loving husband, Shirley W. McGee, two daughters, Shirley Faye Pickens, Inez McGee, one brother, Joe Denson; three sisters, Iria Winding, Estelle Banks, O.V. Rhodes. She attended school in Springer, Oklahoma attending Central High School but she later relocated to Kansas City, Missouri where she later received her GED. On June 12, 1954 she married Shirley McGee, the love of her life and they remained married for more than 50 years and he died on their anniversary. Together they raised four girls, Shirley Faye, Wanda Gail, Inez LaKay, Julia Ann. Eria accepted Christ at an early age and later joined Memorial Church International under the leadership of Apostle Larry Aiken where she remained a member until her passing. Eria worked many years as a private duty cook for a prominent family. She did not only work as a cook, she loved to cook for her family. Every holiday she cooked so much food and everyone was welcomed to come and join the feast at our house. There was always more than enough food for everyone. Because of the way she cooked, her daughters only know how to cook more than enough food for everyone. She enjoyed her family. They called her and her sister Estelle the card sharks because they could beat anyone at a good card game. Eria had advice for everyone of her grandkids. She shared her wisdom with all of her daughters as well as her grandkids. She was so close to her grandkids that she could call on them for anything. They loved her dearly. She gave them all a nickname; she even nicknamed her nieces and nephews. She was old school and she had no filter. She would tell you what she wanted whether you liked it or not. She is survived by her two daughters, Wanda Littles (Dwight) and Julia Walker; sister, Gloria Pickens; grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren as well as a host of other family members and friends. Eria Faye’s words of wisdom and her loving spirit will truly be missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Church International 11424 Hickman Mills Drive KCMO 64134. Interment: XII Gates Memorial Gardens.
