Emma M. Ezell

Emma M. Ezell was born November 30, 1926, to the union of Alma and Esther Gibson in Bald Hill, Oklahoma. She was the first of eight children. Emma M. Ezell departed this life and began her heavenly journey on Friday, December 15, 2017, at her home, surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by both parents and five siblings. Emma accepted Christ at an early age. Her love for God radiated through the warm and caring spirit she displayed throughout her lifetime. She joined Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in 1959, and remained an active member. She served as president of Trustee Helpers Club, member of Sarah Allen Missionary Society, member of the Ladies Chorus, and as an Usher. She also read the church announcements every Sunday. She received her education in Tulsa, Oklahoma, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in 1945. She was united in marriage to Woodrow D. Mansfield and was married for forty years. To this union three children were born, Sue, Marsha, and Woody, Jr. She later married Ellis Ezell. Emma was employed in various jobs in the service industry and was the local President of the Service Employees Union International (SEUI). She retired from Legal Aid of Western Missouri after more than ten years of employment. She was a member of the Celebrants Social Club, the Urban League Guild and the Swope Parkway Health Center Ladies Auxiliary. Emma enjoyed gardening, cooking, and baking, and loved volunteering at John Knox Village Thrift Store, every Saturday. She was very much a people person and never met a stranger. Emma M. Ezell leaves to cherish her memories, daughters, E. Sue Bradfield (Percy) of Grandview, Missouri and Marsha E. Montgomery (Cleon) of Casselberry, Florida; son, Woodrow D. Mansfield, Jr. of Kansas City, Missouri; brother, Donald R. Gibson (Marionette), of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sister, Catherine Newsome (Jimmy) of Sparks, Nevada; grandchildren: Candace T. Bell (Samuel of Marietta, Georgia, Mallory Montgomery (Lawrence) of Altamonte Springs, Florida, Woodrow D. Mansfield, III, of Kansas City, Missouri, and Maya Mansfield of Tyler, Texas; great grandsons, Amir Bell and Xavier Bailey; great-granddaughter, Rylei Mansfield; Mona Guinn, her dedicated and loving caregiver and adopted daughter; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral Service for Emma M. Ezell will be held Friday, December 22, 10:00 a.m. at Allen Chapel AME Church, 4125 Benton. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the Church. Interment, 12:30 p.m. Leavenworth National Cemetery.
