Ms. Eddie Mae Hunley

Eddie Mae Hunley departed this life into Glory on June 8, 2024, at the age of 84. Her last days were spent surrounded by those that truly loved her. She was born on September 2, 1939, in Eudora Arkansas to Eddie Hunley and Annie Bowie. She was the 6th of 7 sisters and was named for her father's longing of a son. She was affectionately called 'Puddin' by her loved ones. Eddie Mae found Christ early in life and was devoted to the Lord. She was an adored mother & treasured grandmother whose light will shine forever in the hearts of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Daniel Johnson, sisters, Dorothy Spotwood, Gladys Kearney, Freddie Mae Wade, Dorothy Cashier and Mildred Reams. After an invitation from her oldest sister, she left Eudora for Kansas City with her two small children, Gwen and Billy. She soon found her footing and worked for Neville Luggage for several years. Puddin was always a hard worker and eventually landed in her career at Western Electric, from which she retired. Eddie Mae was very active in her faith. From Sunday School Ministry to intercessory prayer, she always had a message or a scripture to share. She was a member of Palestine Missionary Baptist Church for nearly 50 years. She joined the Friendship Baptist Church family later in life, where she instantly felt at home. She especially loved her Sunday School class. Eddie Mae was a God-fearing woman and a wonderful mother. Her soul was anchored in the Lord. With God's help, she raised six children and played an integral role in the rearing of some of her grandchildren. She instilled Christian values in her family and faced every situation with prayer first. Through this trial, we sing Hallelujah! Lord, we give You praise! We will take comfort in Your word, John 11:25-26, Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” Eddie Mae's cherished memory is carried on by her sister, Ruby Bishop, her children, Gwendolyn Allen, Billy Hunley, Ricky Hunley, Anthony Hunley, Karen Close and Kimberly Tiamiyu, 5 special granddaughters, Sherry McHenry, Shyla Johnson, Brandy Withers, Sydney Hunley, and Khloe Curry, special great-granddaughter, Mychael Rose Ward, 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, 11:00am at Friendship Baptist Church. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation from 10:00am-11:00am at the church. Services conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolence may be shared on our website.
