Obituary Dorothy Mae Williams, 83, was born February 5, 1935 in Naylor, Georgia to Dank and Agnes Burgman. She was the oldest of five beautiful girls. Dorothy peacefully departed this life on Sunday morning March 4, 2018, at home with her family. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her sister, Rosa Perry. Those who knew and were close to her called her,” Dott”, Sis Williams, but mostly “Bigmama”. Dorothy attended church and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She attended school there in her hometown where she lived until she came to Kansas City at the age of seventeen. In July 1953, this Georgia Peach met who would soon become the love of her life, Berlyn Williams. These two lovebirds courted until they were united in marriage in November of 1953 and enjoyed sixty-four beautiful years of marriage. To this union they had one son, Joshua Williams, III. After getting married, Dorothy joined the Eighth Street Baptist Church under Dr. IH Henderson, Sr. where she served faithfully as a Choir member, Sunday School Teacher, YP Training Union Teacher, and wherever she was needed in the church until 1972, when her husband was called to Pastor where she served along-side with him for forty-three years. Dorothy loved church and she loved to sing especially her favorite hymn “There is a Fountain.” Dorothy was a very hard-working woman. When she first came to Kansas City she worked at Winstead’s Restaurant and then immediately went into Home Care and Private Nursing for over fifty years. Dorothy was a classy woman that knew how to dress and loved to wear her heels and her hats. She truly knew how to wear her Sunday’s best. She was a great cook, loved to feed people, was a true servant, loved to serve and she also loved to see people eat and have plenty. Dorothy truly loved her family. She did everything possible to make sure they all felt her love and affection. She loved Josh, her one and only son, and loved her four grandchildren whom she helped her husband to raise and loved her six very special great grandchildren. Dorothy Mae Williams leaves to cherish her memories, her loving husband of sixty-four years, Reverend B.R. Williams; son, Joshua Williams; four grandchildren: Stephanie Yonts, Alonzo Williams, Joshewa Williams, and Jocelyn (Aric) Nunnally; six great-grandchildren: Alonzo Williams, Jr., Elijah Williams, Danielle Williams, Ezra Brooks, Isaiah Brooks, and Dasia Brooks; three sisters: Bernice (Melvin) Barnes, Eatha Williams, and Vernell Copeland; special God-Daughter, Amber Wallace; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her New Grace Church Family. Funeral Service for Dorothy Mae Williams will be held Saturday, March 10, 10:30 a.m. at Eighth Street Baptist Church, 1420 North 8th Street, Kansas City, Kansas.
