Mrs. Dorothy (Little) Sublett

Obituary Dorothy Little Sublett was born September 11, 1926 in Aliceville, Alabama, the daughter of Odie Pruitt, Sr and Georgia Ann Little. Her siblings included two sisters, Arelia Taylor and Ethel Brown and three brothers, Arron (Bertha) Pruitt, Hugh and Sam (Alberta) Pruitt. Dorothy was educated in the Alabama Public School system. She was a resident of Kansas City for over seventy years. Dorothy was employed at Central Bag Factory as a supervisor and she was employed at Mall of Arts. In 1969, Dorothy took nursing classes at the Red Cross and graduated in 1972 and became a nurse’s aid. Dorothy was united in marriage to Joseph Wilkins and to this union two children were born, Joseph Wilkins, Jr and Louise Wilkins. After Joseph passing in 1973, Dorothy married Raymond Sublett and she became housewife. Raymond was employed with the post office for thirty-nine years and had a position of supervisor for 29 years. Their union ended in Raymond passing in 1991. Dorothy attended Mt Vernon Missionary Baptist Church when it was located at 10th and Park, she later became a member in 1969. She became a member of the First Aid Ministry in 1971 and in 1986 she became president and served as president until her passing. She always served her ministry well; they were low in number but always managed to raise a lot of funds through their stay-at-Home Tea Fundraiser. Dorothy was awarded Gem of the Month in 2014 and she faithfully attended bible study. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories one son, Joseph (Maudine) Wilkins, Jr, Grandchildren: James (Daisy) Wilkins, Joseph (Linda) Wilkins, Vicky (Robert) Mitchum, Raymond Wilkins, Richard Whitehurst, Tanya (Darrell) Carter, Collete Wilkins, adopted grandson, Johnny Ray Carter and adopted daughters: Marcia Williams, Stephanie Adams and Cora Faison. Also, a host of great grandchildren, family and friends. Services will be held on Fri. Nov. 18, 2022, 10:00am at Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation 9am. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery, LVNKS 12:30pm. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
