Mrs. Dorothy L. Newton

Dorothy Lee (Hyman) Newton, 90, was born on January 10, 1935, in Marshall, Texas, to Eugene and Lula Hyman. She peacefully departed this life on November 2, 2025, at her daughter’s home in Texas. Dorothy spent her early years in Dallas, Texas, before her family relocated to Hot Springs, Arkansas, where she attended middle and high school. During the summers, she spent time in Kansas City, Missouri, visiting her beloved aunt, a tradition that would ultimately shape the course of her life. It was during one of those summers that she met her soulmate, Archie Newton, Jr., with whom she shared 61 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they made their home in Kansas City, where they raised their family and build a life full of love, laughter, and faith. Dorothy was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Archie Newton Jr; her parents, Eugene and Lula Hyman; her only sister, Helen Broadnax; her daughter, Zenovia Newton; her son, Archie Newton II; her granddaughter, Ashley Gatlin; and two very special longtime friends, Rose Herring; and Lucindy Moss. A proud and loving wife, mother, and homemaker, Dorothy poured her heart into raising six children, a job she approached with grace, strength, and endless love. She created a warm and welcoming home where everyone felt like family. Dorothy was famous for her cooking; no one ever left her house hungry. Whether it was family, friends, or a neighbor just stopping by, there was always room at her table and food to share. She also shared in her husband’s love for farm life, helping him feed the cattle and chase them back into the pasture when they wandered beyond the fence, a true partner in every sense. After raising her children, Dorothy embraced her passion for travel and new adventures. One of her greatest joys was finally visiting Niagara Falls, a destination she had always dreamed of seeing. She never hesitated to hop in the car and hit the road. Dorothy’s personality shined brightly; she was outgoing, loving, funny, and full of joy. She always had a joke for you. She accepted Christ at an early age and later rededicated her life to the Lord as an adult. a lifelong music lover, she sang proudly in the Glee Club and continued to life her voice in song throughout her life. Dorothy’s legacy of love, hospitality, and faith lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. Her home was always open, her food always plentiful, and her spirit always kind. She leaves to cherish her everlasting memories, three daughters, Linda N. Johnson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Karen E. Newton of Dallas, Texas; and Dorothy R. Henderson of Kansas City, Missouri; one son, Donald E. Newton of Kansas City; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday November 15, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Lawrence A Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel 1800 East Linwood Blvd. KCMO 64109. Interment: Brooking Cemetery.
