Mrs. Dorothy M. Byrd

Mrs. Dorothy M. Byrd “To everything there is a season, a time to very purpose under the heaven. A time to be born and a time to die.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 “A Time to Be Born” Dorothy Mae Gregory was born January 20, 1951, in Kansas City, Kansas to the union of Emanuel Gregory Sr., and Ella Lee Rentie Gregory. Her parents and brother, Joseph Gregory preceded her in death. “A Time to Live” Dorothy grew-up in Kansas City, Kansas and graduated from Sumner High School in 1969. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Albert L. Johnson, Sr. and faithfully served in the choir and worked in the Church nursery. Dorothy married Lee Williams, Sr. and to this union one son was born. The marriage was later dissolved. As Dorothy’s life journey continued, she met her soulmate, Dewey H. Byrd. They became as one on July 14, 1977. To this union one son was born. They were happily married for 48 years. Dorothy was a ‘fashionista’ and was employed by the high-end ladies’ fashion stores Adler’s and Chasnoff’s. Her career path would later lead her to be employed with KC Southern Railroad, U.S. Postal Service and Lady Baltimore. Dorothy enjoyed baking and cooking with her home-made rolls being everybody’s favorite. She was truly a “Foodie”, who loved good soul food and desserts. Her favorite pass-time was spending quality time at family gatherings. Whether early in the morning or late at night, Dorothy always had the biggest warmest smile on her face. Her smile would light up any room that she entered. She was a shining light to all who crossed her path. “A Time to Depart” Dorothy received her heavenly wings on Thursday, March 27, 2025. Dorothy “Pedie” Byrd leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Dewey H. Byrd; her two sons, Lee Williams Jr. and Kwasi J. Byrd, Kansas City, KS; grandson, Jayden “Jay” Byrd, Kansas City, KS; sister, Laura A. Thomas, Des Moines, IA; brother Emanuel Gregory, Jr. (Thelma), Kansas City, KS; two sister-in laws, Narene Crosby (Melvin), Annette Taylor (Curtis); Goddaughter Edwina Scroggins, Kansas City, KS and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Services Friday, April 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Oasis Church International 11500 East 53rd Street Raytown, MO 64133. Interment: Highland Park Cemetery.
