Mr. Donald W. McKay

Donald Wayne McKay, age 67, passed away April 16, 2026 at his home in Blue Springs, Missouri with his wife and son – Donald died in his son, Christopher, arms. Donald was born on December 26, 1958, in Vivian, Louisiana to Wesley Williams and Alice Marie McKay. He lived in Shreveport, Louisiana with his father until age 12, – he went to live in Huttig, Arkansas with his mother Alice and sister, Virginia. Donald graduated from Huttig High School in 1978 – joined the United States Army in 1978 with his two best friends, Donald Ray Riley and Leeroy James. In 1983 Donald married his wife, Velma Jean McKay – December 27, 1983 – They started their lives together. In 1985, Donald was selected to go to the United States Army Recruiting School in Indianapolis, Indiana for three months training. He continued his career serving as Army Recruiter, retired December 31, 2024 as First Sargent after twenty-six and half years. He won many awards. He started his career as Civilian Recruiter working in USAREC Kansas City Branch. Recently retired after twenty years after his health started failing suddenly. Donald used the GI Bill to complete his education – Columbia Southern University with Bachelor Degree of Science in Business Administration and Marketing in January 2009. He continued college at Columbia Southern University, where he received Master of Business Administration in October 2011. Donald was active in Community Service in Rocky Mount, North Carolina where his wife – Hillsdale Family and Friends Day – weekend on Memorial Day weekends. He also donated Thanksgiving Turkey Baskets for families in need – whole completed dinners so families could enjoy dinner with their families. Donald was a “Sports Fan” Dallas Cowboys and KC Chiefs Football Teams. Donald mentor soldiers with passion to succeed – never met a stranger – always outgoing with personality that lit-up – shined before everyone he met – unforgettable. As his wife of forty-three years “I will truly love my husband forever. We grew up – learned how to be responsible and caring adults.” Son, Christopher – “We are three peas in Tri-pod Loved forever.” Donald was preceded in death by his father, Wesley Williams, mother, Alice Marie McKay Rochelle; brothers, Robert Lee Williams, Wesley Williams, Jr., David Lee Williams and Lee Arthur Rochelle; sisters, Ruthie Mae Williams and Avis Dawson; father-in-law, Samuel Henderson; mother-in-law, Ann Deans Henderson. Donald leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Velma Jean McKay; son, Christopher Wesley and Samuel McKay of the home; best friends like brothers, Donald Ray Riley and Ernest Canady; sister, Virginia (Matthew) of Raytown, Missouri, JoAnn Easter, Huttig, Arkansas, Alice Ward, Farmerville, Louisiana; brother, Lee Oliver Rochelle, Eldorado Arkansas, Kieoka Rahelm, Nor Fleet, Bruce Williams, Cameron Rochelle and Gabriel Charles, whom he treated like he was their father – they loved each other – their “Uncle Mac”; great niece, Jordoyn Norfleet called him Grandpa. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at Rescue Baptist Church 2901 Indiana Avenue KCMO 64128. Interment: Leavenworth National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Visitation: 10 -11:00 a.m. at the Church. A wake will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 5 – 7:00 p.m. at Lawrence A.
