Obituary Deloris "Dee Dum" Wright, 86, passed away at home with her family on November 25, 2021, in Kansas City, MO. Deloris was born in Kansas City, KS,on January 15, 1935,to Lula Mae Kirkwood and Pinkie Zachery. Deloris was the oldest of three girls, Peggy Kirkwood, Enis Smith, and one boy, who passed away at birth. Deloris accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Eighth Street Baptist Church in Kansas City, KS, where she was baptized. Her belief in Christ has been passed on to her family. In 1955, Deloris graduated with honors from Sumner Academy of Arts and Science in Kansas City, KS. During her transition from being a high-school graduate into adulthood, Deloris found a passion for entertainment. During her 20's, Deloris turned her love for entertainment into her reality. While working as a singing barmaid, Deloris's fondness for singing grew stronger, resulting in her becoming a singer for the Kansas City Charmers group. Shortly after, Deloris soon met the love of her life, Sylvester "Cadillac Slim" Wright. On March 8, 1969, Deloris married Sylvester at the age of 34. This beautiful union resulted in two daughters, Luceta and Sylvia. Following the birth of her two daughters, Deloris decided to shift from entertainment to being a stay-at-home wife. In 1976, Deloris and her family moved to Decatur, IL, to support her husband during a job relocation. In 1978, the family of four returned to Kansas City, MO, where the couple purchased their first home. Deloris was a woman that valued and cherished her family and friends. If you knew Dee Dum, you know that she was famous for her extravagant birthday celebrations and holiday gatherings. There was never a dull moment when being in her presence. Not only was Dee Dum a singer that also enjoyed dancing, but she also loved handing out spankings in Spades and Tonk. The gatherings that she hosted were used to bring her family and friends together to celebrate life. Deloris was preceded by her husband Sylvester Wright, mother Lula Mae Kirkwood, sister Enis Smith, step-daughter Anita Beard, and son-in-love Vincent Pooler. Deloris is survived by her two daughters, Luceta Wright Hudson (Fred Hudson), Sylvia Wright Pooler (Vincent Pooler), grandchildren De'Esha Graves (William Graves), and La'Kia Wright Adams, great-grandchildren Anniese, Naomi and Royce Graves, Jamari and Jamarion Moore.
