Celebrating The Life & Legacy of a Virtuous Woman” Deborah D. Newton Reflections of a Life Well Lived “May the works I’ve Done speak for me” There is much to be said about this “Virtuous Woman” that family and old school friends affectionately called “RED.”. Deb loved her family and that “Agape” love extended to George’s family and everyone else. Anyone that new her realized she wore many hats; literally and figuratively. She was an amazing daughter, wife, mother, grandmother (NANA) sister, aunt, great aunt, cousin , classmate, friend, entrepreneur and community servant. Deborah D. Newton 68, transitioned from her earthly home to be with the Lord in her heavenly home on February 27, 2024, at Advent Health Hospital surrounded by her beloved husband George and her family singing Blessed Assurance and praying as she transitioned into the arms of her Father in heaven. Deborah Diane (Lee) Newton was born on October 21, 1955 to the parents of Davy and Beatrice (Wooten) Lee. She was the third child out of six. She accepted Christ at an early age while attending Eighth Street Baptist Church, K.C.KS then moved on to Calvary Baptist Church K.C. KS, with her husband Leon. She grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, where she attended Douglass Elementary, Northeast Jr. High School and graduating from Sumner High School in 1973. After graduation, as young adults scatter across the world exploring, many never reconnect with their high school friends. However, Sumner High School has a long standing reputation of Alumni reconnecting every five years creating memories. Her class of 1973 celebrated 50 years in 2023. Deb was instrumental in fundraisers, gifting her class with her talents of creating a lifelong memory book and being their treasurer for many years. Good job “Spartans” After graduation Deb attended K.C.Ks Vocational College and enrolled and completed Data Processing Certification. She worked for Providence Medical Center running the data processing department. Years later she took on the challenge of being an entrepreneur and that developed into her phenomenal career (1+ Printing Services) for 32 years. After marrying her classmate Leon Lewis and to this union Nicole (Nikki) Lewis was born. Later this marriage was dissolved. God then sent George Newton Jr .who filled her life with happiness and they were married on September 30, 1984, and on September 30, 2024, they would have reached 40 years of marriage and to this union they received another blessing Joshua D. Newton. Deb and George joined Mount Olive under the leadership of Rev. Charles Morgan and worshipped and grew in the word for many years and finally found their forever church home at Oak Ridge Baptist Church under the dynamic leadership of her Pastor Dr. Ricky Turner. The gifts God gave Deb was her loving spirit, creative nature, her witnessing power to believe that our Lord and Savior is real and he will provide for us. and all true believers will stay connected to God and his word. Remember God is able to keep you when you can’t keep yourself. Romans 16:25. Deb loved creating a beautiful yard filled with beautiful flowers that exemplified a calmness and peace of mind, loved dancing, Christmas was her favorite holiday to decorate the entire home inside/outside, planning gatherings that included George and her family, helping and volunteering where and whenever needed, loved traveling and supporting our extended family reunions of the Georgia Pine Society. Deb was a major influencer in 2019 for our 50th family reunion in Georgia where our family originated from. Deb created the most awesome memory book and our yearly memory book. Recently in December 2023 she spearheaded an awesome Georgia Pine Society family calendar which included (30) states of family pictures each month, of 2024, raising additional funds for our upcoming 2024 reunion in South Carolina. She also extended her creativity in her 1+ Printing Business for 32 years working for Lawrence A. Jones Funeral Chapels, Watkins Funeral Home, Serenity Funeral Home, Thatcher’s Funeral Home and Highland Park Funeral Home supporting grieving families with a beautiful and well put together program booklet expressing the life they lived. Through her gifts from God she became the sought after person, a business giant in/out of Kansas City for a variety of printing needs, but most of all she sought out Gods’ word and Gods’ church and being a servant. Her God given gift will be truly missed. Deb loved her Oak Ridge church family and Pastor Turner and First Lady Tina Lisa Turner. She was an active member and contributed too many ministries. These ministries are: Deaconess Board, Mission Department, Chairperson of Christmas Cheer giveaway program for underprivileged children in District 500 for (7 years), taught children vacation bible school, attended prayer meeting and on the prayer ministry team, attended Sunday School, assisted with the Food Kitchen (Outreach), Coordinated/Designed/Printed the Oak Ridge Newsletter, Volunteered in supporting the Culinary Committee and Coordinated the Central Avenue Center of Hope. Deb’s outstanding achievements have included taking over from her sister Sheila the position representing the State of Kansas on the National Georgia Pine Society Board that oversees our yearly family reunion. Honored as family reunion book, chairperson in 2019, Black Woman of Distinction 2006, Nora McDowell Mobley Humanitarian Award.2014. She is preceded in death by her parents, Davy Sr., and Beatrice Wooten-Lee and one sibling: Davy E. Lee ,Jr. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: Beloved husband, George Newton Jr., her precious daughter Nicole (Nikki) Patterson and precious son Joshua Newton. Her beautiful and loved granddaughter Nia Patterson and handsome grandson NaJae Patterson, Siblings: Big Sister Sheila (Wesley, Sr.)Lee, Tyrone Lee, Brian Lee, Anthony Sr. (Cheree) Lee, special prayer partners at Oak Ridge MBC: Veronica McNeill, Ruby Kirkwood, Gwen Pearl, Deidra Butler, Prudence Robinson-Lee, Ruby Stewart, George family prayer partners Hilary Walker and Moore family along with a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins and her many special friends she loved and spent time with throughout her life. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, 11:00am at Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church.. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation 9:00am-11:00am at the church. Services conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
