Deacon John W. Sanders, Jr.

Obituary John W. Sanders Jr., was born February 26,1953 in Meridian, Mississippi to John, Sr. and Mattie Sanders. He was preceded in death by both parents Mattie and John Sanders, sisters Laquita Sanders-Holliman and Rena Oliver and a step daughter Cecily Freeman and wife Alice Sanders. John was educated St. Louis, Missouri public schools, he furthered his education at Cornell University and later received his bachelor's degree from University of Kansas in Electrical Engineering, John met and married the love of his life Alice on May 19, 1985. John was employed by Western Electric for many years and AT&T, then later with Birch Communications. His last employment was with Folgers Coffee until he retired. John was a former member of Eastern Star Baptist Church in St, Louis, Missouri under the leadership of Pastor Daniel Hugh and later united with the Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of late Rev. Dr. A. L. Johnson, Sr. where he was ordained as a Deacon. John served in many auxiliaries throughout the church; singing in the Male Chorus and Mass Choir and teaching Sunday School. After leaving Zion Grove he became a member of the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Kim L. Gladney , he later united with the Victorious Life Church under the leadership of Bishop Mark C. Tolbert, until his heath prevented him from attending church service, but he was a true servant of God, He had a love for music he played several instruments and played in the marching band while in high school and college. John departed his life on July 3,2021 at home. He leaves to cherish his memory: one son, Charles Freeman; two sisters, Wanda Taylor and Melissa Ezenwa of Kansas City; his brothers, Louis Sanders of East St, Louis, ,IL, Willie Sanders of St. Louis, MO, David Sanders and Frederick Sanders both of Kansas City, Mo; a host of grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 17, 2021, 11:00am at Victorious Life Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. Family Hour will be from 10am-11am at the church.
