Deacon James W. Lacy

Obituary Mr. James William Lacy was born October 23, 1932, in Holdenville, Oklahoma to Arlene and James Olden, both preceded him in death. He was later adopted by Lloyd Lacy. James Lacy passed away on January 15, 2022, at Blue Hills Rest Home in Independence, Missouri. James relocated to Kansas City, Missouri in 1945 where he later married Marguerite Johnson. To this union six children were born, Deneece C. Lacy, Michael L. Lacy, Sandra K. Jones, Loretta J. Black (Robert), Lorrie A. Lacy (deceased) and Brian D. Lacy (deceased). James received his education in Kansas City at W.W. Yates Elementary and R.T Coles High School in Kansas City, Mo. He attended Lincoln Junior College for one year. Mr. Lacy married Sedonia Vivian on July 5, 1981. Through this union James inherited three stepsons, James Vivian, Charles Vivian and William Vivian. Also, a special daughter-in-law Sally Vivian whom he often referred to as his fifth daughter. James and Sedonia were married for 39 years until her death on February 10, 2021. James joined St. Stephen Baptist Church in 1955 and was baptized by Rev. Solon Fox, Assistant Pastor. He served as Bible Teacher, Rachel SWMU Circle, Group No. 2, Treasurer and Assistant Bible Teacher, Male Chorus, BTU and the Deacon Board. He was an active church member until his health began to fail; however, he loved God and shared this with his children throughout their lives. Mr. Lacy was employed by Milgram Grocery Store for 24 years where he was elevated to the position of Produce Manager. He was an avid football fan and enjoyed the KC Chiefs. He enjoyed classical music and played the alto saxophone for many years. He is survived by his children, Deneece C. Lacy of Minneapolis, MN, Michael L. Lacy, Sandra K. Jones, Loretta J. Black (Robert), all of Kansas City, MO and his stepsons James Vivian of Kansas City, MO, Charles Vivian of Oxnard California and William Vivian of Kansas City, MO and his half -brother James Olden (Willa) of Oklahoma City, OK, sister-in-law Shirbie Faulkner (James Hemphill) and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
