Deacon Robert K. Washington

Obituary Deacon Robert K. Washington, Sr. of Kansas City, Missouri, departed this life on February 10, 2018, at the VA Medical Center. Robert was born on July 20, 1925, to the union of late John Melvin Washington and Mildred Ruffin Washington in Iola, Kansas. He was the first born of three children. He was proceeded in death by both parents, sister, Isabelle Mitchell, his younger brother, John Melvin Washington, and a niece, Myrna L. Starr. Deacon Robert K. Washington was a Navy World War II Veteran and received an Honorable Discharge in 1946. After coming to Kansas City, he opened his own Radio Repair Shop which did not last long because business was slow, so he went to school on the G.I. Bill. He went to a trade school where he took up Tailoring. Being self-employed for ten years, he was still unhappy. So, he went to work as a Shipping Clerk for Kansas City White Goods where he retired after twenty-five years of service. He later returned to work at The Together Outreach Center as a Supervisor for the church. He had seven children with his first wife and he gained twelve children from his second wife, and last he gained four children from his third wife. He was a Deacon, Head of the Trustee Board, and a faithful member of Humphrey Temple Church of God in Christ for the last seventeen years under the leadership of Elder Buford Butler. Deacon Robert Kenneth Washington, Sr. leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife, Mary B. Washington; sons, Robert Kenneth Washington, Jr. (Beverly), Romal Washington, Dirk Washington; daughters: Rowena Washington, Deborah Washington, Phyllis Jones, Van Washington; an adopted daughter, Mildred Washington; stepchildren, Adell Kirkwood, Jr. and Carl Kirkwood, Jr.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, church family and his many friends. He loved his family and extended with all his heart. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral Service for Deacon Robert K. Washington will be held Saturday, February 17, 11:00 a.m. at Martin Temple Church of God in Christ, 905 Olive St. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Church.
