Obituary David L. Porter Pugh, a known singer, musician and life-long resident of Kansas City, Missouri, departed this life peacefully, entering into eternal rest, Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at Research Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, with his family by his side. On October 10, 1958 in Kansas City, Missouri, a chosen, peculiar child was born to the late Blanche Lee Rhodes Porter. David was the fourth of eight children. He assisted with the rearing of his younger siblings. David would press and comb his sisters’ hair, cook full meals for the family and tailor his and his mother’s clothing. David at the early age of three, began to display his talent of singing. He began his walk with Christ at a very early age and showed a love for God and church as a youth. David would often sneak from home to attend church services as a kid. David later invited his mother and his Aunt (Babydoll) to attend service in which resulted in their decision to accept Christ. David graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri and later attended Job Corp where he enhanced his culinary skills. David began ministering at the young age of twelve and was conducting revivals that led his mother and siblings to move to Hope, Arkansas. While living in Arkansas, David worked as a manager at a local bakery. After completing his mission in Arkansas, helping many young people recognize their talent to sing and developing choirs, David returned to Kansas City, Missouri. In 1981, David released an album that was recorded live entitled “The Master’s Will” with many songs written by him. While living in Kansas City, David shared his gift of music and singing with various churches throughout the city. David was gifted with many talents: musician, Minister, songwriter, singer, cook, hairdresser, and seamstress in which he performed all with great skill. After becoming paralyzed from a severe stroke, David continued to perform as a musician, singer and great cook with the use of only one hand. David did not allow his disability, including having a prosthetic leg to stop him from freely sharing his gifts. David’s gift of music, singing and cooking along with his unique outstanding and loving personality, cultivated an unprecedented number of friends and acquaintances. He is survived by his siblings Raymond Young, Bobby Ray Porter and wife Betty Porter, of Kansas City, MO., Michael Porter, of Maryville, MO., Carolyn Hopkins, of Nashville, AR.; Jamie Randle and husband Douglas W. Randle, Sr., of Hope, Arkansas. Very close family friends Denise Gentry, of Kansas City, MO. and Calvin Reese, of Texarkana, AR., and a special friend/nurse-caretaker, Linda Sipple-Davis. Several nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Blanche Lee Rhodes Porter, his stepfather Oad (Big Boy) Porter, his brothers Mark A. Porter, and Larry D. Porter, and a very close aunt, Leatter Woods (Baby doll). A Memorial service will be held Saturday, November 20, 2021, 3:00pm at Linwood United Church. Service conducted by Lawrence A.
