Daisy Mae (Wilson) Locke

Obituary Daisy Mae Locke was a woman of faith who was born on February 17, 1923 in Crossett Arkansas to the union of Julius & Bertha (Barnes) Wilson. She was the second youngest of three children. Her mother Bertha (Barnes) Wilson and father Julius Wilson, step-mother Cynthia Bowie, brother W.A. Smith and (baby sister name unknown), husband Thethel Nathaniel Locke Sr. & great grandson DeSean S. Hughes all preceding her in death. Daisy attended and graduated from RT Coles High School, class of 1935. Followed by two years of undergraduate studies. In Daisy’s earlier years she worked at Phillis Wheatley Hospital as a nurse assistant. On April 21st, 1946, she married the Love of her life, Thethel N. Locke Sr. To this union three sons Thethel Nathaniel Locke Jr. Julius Bernard Locke, Edwin Napoleon Locke and one daughter Frances Denise. Married and with a family she worked outside the home doing day work to help supplement extra income with needs for the family. She later was asked to stop and become a house wife. Little Bit, Pretty or Ms. Daisy as she was known as, enjoyed listening and singing gospel music, dancing, washing, cooking, caring and spending precious moments with her family. As a child of the Great Depression era, she was excellent with keeping within a budget and managing bills. Every holiday the family would gather at the family home. Extended family members and friends were always welcomed to come, eat and fellowship as well. Ms. Daisy loved life to the fullest. Ms. Daisy accepted Christ in her life at an early age. She was baptized into the Baptist Faith and later in life converted to the Catholic faith. She was a faithful member of Blessed Sacrament Church for over 20 years until the parish closed and consolidated with St. Louis Parish. She attended services with her children until her health began to fail. She was a member of the Altar Rosery & Holy Name Societies where she worked on the Hospitality Committee. She enjoyed helping to serve families food at repass. She will be remembered mostly for her generosity when giving to others in need. She lived her life in obedience to God’s holy word & continually walked in the purpose for her life. Her daily walk displayed her personal relationship with her Lord & Savior. She was small in stature yet a mighty woman of unwavering faith who always reverenced God. She believed in the power of prayer and instilled it in her children, grand-children and everyone who came in her presence. Ms. Daisy departed her earthly journey peacefully on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 with her family present at her bedside. Mrs. Daisy is survived by her three sons, Thethel N. Locke (Alice), Julius B. Locke, Edwin N. Locke (Donna) and one daughter Frances (Dixon) Locke, 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law Virginia Thomas and Blanche Harlmon-Locke, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, faithful neighbors and friends. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. on January 26, 2019 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 1001 E. 52nd Street, Kansas City, Missouri. Visitation 9:00 A.M.
