Obituary CAROL EVON SPEED-WELLS Carol Evon Speed-Wells of Kansas City, Kansas passed away peacefully among family and friends on Sunday, October 20, 2019 in Overland Park, Kansas. Carol Dixon was born July 12, 1949 to Arthur H. and Margaret E. Dixon who preceded her in death. She was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Kansas except for a brief period when her parents resided in Kansas City, Missouri. Carol was educated in both the Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas School Districts. For over 35 years, Carol owned and operated “Speed’s Tots Daycare” where she humbly touched the lives of youth throughout the Greater Kansas City area. Her daycare children and family were most important to Carol. She treasured her children and because of her gifted communication style, playful spirit and straight forward dialogue, Carol could connect with family and friends of all ages in addition to her immediate family. She was especially fond of young people and they found a refuge in her, someone with whom they could share their innermost thoughts and get great laughs. She was a friend and confidant to many throughout the years in her community and was sincerely loved by those who knew her. Carol embraced her role as a family matriarch and was always available for those in need. She was a giving friend and a sharing person that one could count on in a pinch. She was an outstanding cook and her specialty was the dinner roll recipe, which was specifically handed down to Carol from her mother. Carol enjoyed watching the shopping network, baseball and especially the Kansas City Royals of which she was an avid fan. She was a longtime member of Greater Jerusalem Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas. Carol was preceded in death by her son, Bryant K. Dixon, brothers Donald B. Dixon, Howard A. Dixon and Jon Preuitt. She is survived by her husband Eddie Wells of the home, four sisters, Elaine Perry of Atlanta, Georgia, Margaret J. Liggins, Kansas City, Missouri, Patricia A. Madison, Kansas City, Kansas, Wendolyn R. Dixon, Kansas City, Missouri and brother Phil S. Dixon (Kerry); her three daughters Lashaunda Poindexter, Kansas City, Kansas, Marquita R. Poindexter, Kansas City, Kansas and Anntoinette N. Poindexter, Olathe, Kansas, and a son Robb J. Madden also of Kansas City, Kansas: five grandchildren, Brian Poindexter Xavier A. Johnson, Veltrea C. Poindexter and Adarius T. Williams, Journey A. Null, and a host of great-grandchildren, family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 28, 2019 at Greater Jerusalem Baptist Church 1610 North 10th Street Kansas City, Kansas.
