Brenda “BJ” Lee Jones was born January 9, 1963, in Scott, Mississippi to the union of Wendell and Mitty (Love) Jones. Being the second of four daughters, she relocated with her family to Kansas City, Missouri in 1963. She professed her faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ. Educated in the Kansas City School district. Brenda was a proud Blue Tiger who graduated from Lincoln Academy “The Castle on The Hill” in 1981. She was a member of the Marching Cobras and Lincoln’s Pep Club. After graduating, Brenda continued her education at Penn Valley Community College and received her degree in Data Processing and Computer Science. She excelled in her educational pursuits and was honored to been recognized on the college’s “Who’s Who’s Dean List. During her matriculation, Brenda was also a Kappa Sweetheart. Brenda was employed at DST for more than 30 years where she held various positions and touched so many lives through her kindness, outgoing personality, and wisdom. At work, she was always known to bring a smile to everyone she encountered. As dedicated and devoted mother, Brenda poured her heart and soul into raising her amazing son-Arthur Dalton Alexander III “AJ.” He is truly her legacy and a reflection of her greatest accomplishment. Brenda expressed her love and appreciation for AJ's passion for Horseback Riding, Plane Rides, Trains, Electronics, and Lottery Tickets. She was also a supporter of the Epilepsy Foundation. Known as an original “Diva,” Brenda had passion and an impeccable taste for fashion. You could always find her dressed to impress in her animal prints, and bedazzled outfits. She loved decorating, home and interior designing, socializing, and listening to music. Some of her best times were spent 2-Stepping to the latest slow jams and R& B classics. She also loved spending time with family and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs. Brenda departed this life peacefully on August 13, 2023, after a long hard-fought battle with cancer. She was a brave warrior who fought her battle with dignity and grace until the very end. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving son—Arthur Dalton Alexander III “AJ;” caring parents—Wendell and Mitty Jones; loving sisters—Mary Moore, Sharon D. Gill, and Angela (Brian) Campbell; very special nieces and nephews—Marcus Moore, Jayde (Immanuel) Tate, Ebone’ Moore, Tere’sha Anderson, Jay L. Gill II, and Brandon Campbell; Great nieces and nephews—Kassie, Jamir, Khloe’, Juliana “Juju”, Emani, and a nephew on the way; and a host of extended family and friends. Memorial services Saturday, August 26, at 11:00am at Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ. Private disposition. Services conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons.
