Ms. Bessie L. Collins

Obituary Sister Bessie Lee Collins was born July 20, 1934 to the late Georgia Gipson and Bill Collins in Ringgold, Louisiana. She was one of nine (9) children. Bessie attended school in Ringgold, Louisiana. She joined Springhill CME Church, Ringgold, Louisiana at an early age and served faithfully until she moved to Larned, Kansas and then to Kansas City, Missouri where her two brothers and one sister, Herman Bush, Wiley Garner, and Queen Scott were already living. Although Bessie was living in Kansas City, she maintained ties to her hometown through involvement with the Louisiana Club along with her sister and brothers. Bessie touched and enriched the lives of so many people when she moved to Kansas City. Everyone grew to love her and become a part of her extended family by babysitting several generations of children in her family and church community. As soon as she moved to Kansas City, she became an active member of Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church. Although she was involved in several activities and committees in the church, most of time was spent as a devoted member of the choir and regularly attended Sunday School. Bessie brought joy to every heart she touched with her smile, her genuine care for others, and the love she gave to each and every single person she encountered. On March 24, 2022, God sent His angels and Bessie transitioned to be with the Lord. She was preceeded in death by her mother, Georgia B. Gipson, son, Kenneth Ray Collins, two (2) sisters, Mary Collins and Queen B. Scott, five (5) brothers, Early Collins, Joseph Collins, Herman Bush, Wiley P. Garner, and Furley Collins. Bessie leaves to cherish her loving and dedicated memories to five (5) children: Annette Collins (Alfred) of Shreveport, Louisiana, Allen Ray Collins (Minnie), Eddie Collins, Louise Davis, and Juanita Garth (Parnell) all of Kansas City, Missouri; Eight (8) grandchildren: Donald, Marcus, Starla, Aisha, Ernest, Allen, Donnita, Pershay; ten (10) great-grand children; one (1) sister, Annie Pearl Garner of Shreveport, Louisiana; two (3) sisters-in-law Mattie Mae Collins of Shreveport, LA and Stella Bush of Ringgold, LA; Patsy Ann Donald of Pleasant Hill, MO one (1) brother-in-law Leon B. Scott; one God daughter Whitney Dantlzer a special friend Deacon Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022, 11:00am at Sunlight Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 9am - 10:30 am at the church. Interment: Brooking Cemetery.
