Obituary Bennie Jean Alexander Peters was born September 8, 1938, in Chidester, Arkansas, to King and Maggie Alexander. She was the sixth of eight children born to that union. She was a graduate of Shorter College North Little Rock, Arkansas, University of Arkansas (AM & N College) Pine Bluff, Arkansas with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master’s degree from University of Emporia, Emporia, Kansas. And Doctorate hour credits from the University of Oklahoma. Bennie moved to Kansas City, Mo where she met and married Herman Peters. Bennie taught school in Waldo, Arkansas and Kansas City, Missouri. She became a school librarian after teaching for 16+ years. She served as a librarian at King Middle school then became the Coordinator of Library Services in the Kansas City Missouri School District. Bennie received an Outstanding Award in Education prior to retirement. Bennie was a member of the Kansas City Missouri Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority for many years. She was recognized by Delta Sigma Theta as one of their Great Teacher-Librarian at the 45th National Sorority Convention. Bennie was an active member of Cleveland Ave Baptist Church until her health began to fail. She will be remembered for her love of education, books, and children. As well as her steady supply of peppermint candy. She was proceeded in death by her parents and 5 siblings. She leaves to honor and cherish her memory her husband of 56 years, Herman Peters, sister Udell Sockwell of Dallas, TX; Claudia (Joe) Neil of Wichita, KS; brother James Alexander of Rockford, IL, God Daughters LaTonya Rice, Nicole Dougherty, LaWanda Crowder, and a host of nieces and nephews. The family of Bennie Jean Peters wishes to express deep appreciation to those whose kindness has exceeded all expectations of gratitude and care. We would like to especially thank Brookdale Hospice, Home Instead Senior Care, Cleveland Ave Baptist Church Family, and everyone else for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 23, 2021, 12:30pm at Leavenworth National Cemetery, LVNKS. Visitation will be held from 10:00am-11:00am at the chapel . Service conducted by Lawrence A.
