Mr. Barry Jackson

BARRY KEITH JACKSON September 27, 1954- January 10, 2024 Barry Keith Jackson gained his wings and has joined God’s Heavenly Jazz Band on January 10, 2024. Barry was born to the union of Robert William Jackson and Juett Turner Jackson on September 27, 1954. Barry was preceded in death by his wife Alberta Jackson, both parents, Juett and Robert Jackson, a niece, Kimberly A. Jackson, both paternal and maternal grandparents. Barry accepted Christ at an early age and was a long-time member of Allen Chapel AME. He was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri Public School System and graduated in 1972 from Southeast High school where he was very active in the music department under the leadership of Charles Dorch. Barry attended Mississippi Valley University, he returned to Kansas City to pursue his musical career with jazz ensembles such as Mass Transit, Threatening Weather, and Bloodstone. His interests and other hobbies were fishing and being a commentator on talk-radio show Nighthawk to name a few. He met and later married Alberta Ann Davis on April 7, 1977, in a small ceremony. Shortly after their marriage Barry enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served for four years. Born to this union were three children, Julian Jackson, Jennifer Jackson and Barry Keith Jackson, Jr. After being discharged from the US Navy, Barry worked as a mail handler for the US Postal Service for many years. He also worked as a special route bus driver until he reached retirement. During Barry’s retirement years he embarked on another journey as a volunteer radio programmer for KKFI 90.1 FM in 2008. He interviewed many world-renowned musicians within the fusion jazz genre and enjoyed every minute of it. He introduced the listeners to various types of ideals and brand-new artists on his show. Barry stayed with the station until October 2018 before his health began to take a toll on him. His memory will be forever treasured by Julian Jackson (son), Jennifer Jackson (daughter), and Barry Keith Jackson, Jr. (son), Kansas City, Missouri. Five grandchildren, Edward Jackson Wesley, Jasmyne Lunn, Kya Jackson, Jamarion Lewis and Janelle Jackson. Three Brothers Ronald Jackson (Ryoko), Robert Jackson (Sharon), and Dennis Jackson, and sister-in-law Linda Jackson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends, and KKFI listeners who will miss him very much. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024, 10:00am at St. James United Methodist Church. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery, LVWKS. Visitation will be from 9:00am-10:00am at the church. Services conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons. Condolences may be shared on our website.
