Mrs. Annie Ruth Johnson

Obituary Celebration the Life of Annie Ruth Johnson was born on March 15, 1950, in Leigh, Texas to Johnnie Ruth (May) Irving and Gilbert Williams. She was raised by Mr. & Mrs. Aubrey “Baby Ray” Irving Jr. in Kansas City, MO along with Michael May her first cousin. Annie Ruth was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church in Leigh, Texas at an early age. She later became a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO. Annie became a member of the former Flipper Memorial A.M.E. Church, currently Power of Faith A.M.E. Church. She was active in the Choir, the Betty Lou Johnson’s Missionary Society, and served many years as Director of the Young People’s Department (YPD). Later in life she became a member of Sheffield Family of Life Center where she remained a member until she departed. As a member of Sheffield Family of Life Center, Annie served on the Greeter’s Team for several years. Annie met her soulmate, Moses L. Johnson, Jr. in the spring of 1968. It was love at first sight. They married on November 8, 1968. From this union, two children were born: Moses “Pokey” L. Johnson, III (son) and Danielle L. Johnson-Smith (daughter). Annie and Moses were married for 54 years where they demonstrated the key to marriage longevity, love endurance, devotion to each other, and the importance of family. Annie graduated from Southeast High School in 1968. Her career started at Avon Manufacturing Company in Kansas City, MO where she worked for 11 years as a production worker until the facility closed. Annie was later employed at Unilever formerly known as Lipton for 23 years until her retirement in 2010. At Unilever, she worked as a production worker and a consultant facilitator. Over the years, Annie loved taking care of her parents, grandchildren, and being a devoted wife. She had a talent for decorating; organizing events; excellent cook; and being a loyal KC Chief’s and Royal’s fan. Annie volunteered for Barack Obama’s presidential campaign and received special recognition for her dedication and commitment in the 2008 and 2012 elections. Her meticulous appearance, love for shopping, and trendy fashion kept her diva-ish with today’s fashion. Her favorite pass time was supporting her grandchildren in their sport and school activities; going to the movies; attending church; participating in family functions, and traveling. Annie made her transition to her new life on December 29, 2022. She’s joining her parents Johnnie Irving (mother), Aubrey “Baby Ray” Irving (step-father), Gilbert Williams (father) and her in-laws Rev. & Mrs. (Betty) Moses L. Johnson Sr. She leaves to God’s keeping and to cherish her memories: Moses L. Johnson, Jr. (husband), Moses “Pokey” L. Johnson, III (son), and Danielle L. Johnson - Smith (daughter). Grandchildren: Brazil Merritt, Brook Paige Johnson, Vivian Ray, Rafael Myles M. Smith, Robert Jason Parson, II, and Reign G. Merritt (great-grandchild). Special family members: Birdell Gilbert (Aunt), Zephyr James (Aunt), Ed May (Uncle), Michael May (cousin), Betty Williams (stepmother), Eric Williams (brother), and a host of family and friends. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, 11 am at Sheffield Family Life Center. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel.
