Ms. Annie L. Cunningham

Annie Louise Cunningham was born on January 10, 1947, in Augusta, Arkansas to Catherine Jones Alexander and Eugene Reeves. She was the youngest of three daughters. She was preceded in death by both parents, mother-in-law: Evelyn Miller, whom she loved dearly, husband: Charles Cunningham, Sr., two sisters: Irma Hamm and Rosetta Clark, and three brother-in-laws: Jack Hamm, Ervin Clark, and Paul Donaldson. She gave her life to Christ at an early age. She attended St. Luke’s Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Edward Liggins. Annie graduated from Carver High School in Augusta, Arkansas where she was involved in many activities, including basketball in which she excelled. She was also named Ms. Debutante her senior year. After graduation, she attended AM&N University (Pine Bluff University) where she was a member of the majorette squad. Annie later moved to Los Angeles, California, and met the love of her life, Charles Cunningham, Sr. To this union two sons were born, Charles Cunningham, Jr. and Wesley Cunningham. Charles had 2 daughters from his previous marriage, LaQuan and Lesley who lovingly referred to her as “Moms”. While in California, she worked as a receptionist at Laff Records, working with some of the great comedians like Redd Foxx, Ronaldo Ray, and Lawanda Paige. She also worked as a receptionist at Swift Core. California is where she fell in love with the beach and also late-night motorcycle rides with her husband, where her biker handle was Lady Colt 45. During this time, Annie was actively involved on the usher board at Double Rock Missionary Baptist Church in Compton, California. The family later moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1985. She began her career in education as a receptionist at Kumph Elementary. She received her bachelor’s in business administration from Friends University. She then went on to work with LINC as a Community Liaison. Annie touched many students and families in this position at many different schools in the Kansas City Missouri School District. She ultimately ended her career at ACE School where she retired in 2015. While in Kansas City, Annie joined Second Missionary Baptist Church in Grandview, MO under the leadership of Dr. Donald D. Ford I. She was a member of Pastor’s Aide and the Inspirational Choir. Annie loved all sports and was an assistant coach for her son’s baseball, football, and basketball teams when they were younger. She was an OG fan of the Los Angeles Lakers. She enjoyed watching the games with her family. Annie was family-focused and could always be heard talking about her kids. She loved traveling and visited many places, such as Hawaii and Vegas, in her free time. Annie joined the Beta Omega graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. in 2007, and enjoyed fellowshipping with her sisters. One of her best memories was meeting then-First Lady, Michelle Obama when she came to Kansas City. Annie left her earthly home on June 22, 2024. She leaves her, sons: Charles Cunningham, Jr. and Wesley Cunningham, daughters: LaQuan Cunningham and Lesley Cunningham of Los Angeles, California, grandchildren: Anthony, Keiyannha, Markeisha, Lariesse, Larry, Tyran, Darrin, Dariece, and Deja, a host of grand and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sister in laws: Charlotte Cunningham and Elaine Donaldson of California, aunts: Geneva Greenfield (Lloyd) and Emma Barnes of Kansas City, the Goodlow family of Searcy, AR, the McGhee family of Memphis, TN, other relatives, and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024, 12 noon at Second Missionary Baptist Church. 11am-12pm Visitation at the church. Entombment: Floral Hills Cemetery. Services conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolence may be shared on our website.
