Andrea Miriam Bratton, known with great affection as “Bunny” to her family and countless friends, passed peacefully on April 29, 2025, just one day after celebrating her 80th birthday. Full of light, laughter that warmed the soul, and an unshakable faith, Andrea's presence was a comforting embrace to all who were fortunate enough to know her. Born in Jacksonville, Florida on April 28, 1945, to Richard U. Hamilton and Marguerite Lewis Hamilton, Andrea was the eldest of two daughters. At the age of five, she embarked on a significant journey with her mother and sister to Kansas City, Missouri, seeking a life free from the harsh realities of the segregated South. This pivotal move shaped Andrea’s resilient spirit and instilled in her an enduring sense of hope. She received her early education at Saint Joseph and Blessed Sacrament Elementary Schools and graduated from Bishop Lillis High School in 1964. Her pursuit of knowledge continued at Draughons Business College, leading to her initial career at Western Electric Co. However, Andrea's true passion blossomed in the heart of the kitchen. There, she poured her love into countless meals, cooking with soul and meticulous care in various restaurants across the Kansas City metro area. In 1965, Andrea married Clarence Edward Jones, and together they lovingly raised three children: Clarence III, Marie Antoinette, and Helen Louise. Later, she married Clifford Bratton. While that chapter concluded, her steadfast devotion to her family remained constant. Her home was a sanctuary filled with the uplifting melodies of gospel music, the comforting aroma of home cooked meals, and the kind of laughter that made every corner feel alive with love. A woman of profound and unwavering faith, Andrea was a devoted member of Greater Pentecostal Temple in Kansas City, Kansas. She was a mighty praying woman, never hesitant to offer prayers filled with boldness and deep belief. Praising and worshipping the Lord brought her immense joy and served as a guiding light throughout her life. Beyond her faith and family, Andrea found joy in simple pleasures. She possessed a deep and tender affection for all animals, both big and small, embracing them with the same gentle spirit she shared with her loved ones. Gospel music filled her days with rhythm and praise, classic television shows offered familiar comfort, and the act of cooking remained a constant expression of her love. Before her health gently slowed her pace, she cherished the opportunity to travel and raise her voice in song with her sister Marilyn’s church gospel choir, The Saint Monica Music Ministry. Andrea's sweet spirit was a precious gift to everyone she encountered. She had an extraordinary ability to make you feel deeply held, and unconditionally loved, whether through one of her signature warm hugs, a kind and encouraging word, or a heartfelt shared prayer. Her absence will be profoundly felt, yet her enduring legacy of love, resilient faith, and her bright light will continue to shine in all those who knew and loved her. Preceding her in death were her beloved parents and one cherished granddaughter. She leaves behind her loving children, Clarence III (and his wife Julie), Marie, and Helen, along with ten adored grandchildren and eight precious great grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving sister Marilyn Scott and family, her cousin Lavon Grant and family, and many treasured friends, including her dear sisters in spirit Mary Collins and Mary Williams. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23 Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Greater Pentecostal Temple.
