Mrs. Doris R. Thompson

Doris R. Gantt Thompson, born on October 19, 1926, in La Grange, Missouri, peacefully completed her earthly pilgrimage on September 10, 2024. She was the daughter of John and Carrie Gantt, who both preceded her in death. She was the youngest of six sibling who also preceded her in death. Doris accepted Christ at an early age, which guided her life path and service to others. Doris spent her early education in Quincy, Illinois, where she received her foundational education. She later moved to Kansas City, Missouri, to attend Western Baptist College. It was there that she found her spiritual home, joining Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. E. E. Chappelle. Doris briefly served as an elementary teacher before beginning a career with the Internal Revenue Service. Doris became acquainted with Cleophas Thompson and a courtship ensued. On December 31, 1955, Cleophas and Doris were joined in holy matrimony. This union was blessed by God, producing four outstanding sons. Doris served faithfully at Second Baptist Church, first as a church clerk and later as the church secretary, a position she held for 23 years. Her commitment to her church was a testament to her deep love for God and her dedication to the congregation. Doris was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cleophas Thompson. Her memory will be cherished by her children and their spouses: Kemith and Teresa of Atlanta, Georgia; Kevin of Grandview, Missouri; Keith and Valorie of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and Kerwin and Yolanda of Kansas City, Missouri. Doris also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Austin, Christopher, Alexis, Chandler, Ashley Weber (Mason), Alexandria, Moriah, and Caleb and two great-granddaughters, Chloe and Symphony. She will be dearly missed by Vicki Ellison, who was like a daughter to her, along with a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 21, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Second Baptist Church 3620 East 39th Street KCMO 64128. Interment: Memorial Park Cemetery.
