Obituary

Mr. Michael Ledell Love was the first of four children born to Herbert and Bertha Love.  He was born July 8, 1956, in Kansas City, Kansas.               

Michael received Christ as his personal savior at New Testament Pentecostal Church in Kansas City, KS.

He received his high school diploma in 1974 from Central Senior High School in Kansas City, Missouri.  He attended Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City, Missouri from 1975 to 1977 and received his Associate's Degree in business.  Afterward, he enrolled at Rockhurst University and graduated with Honors receiving his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) degree with an emphasis in Marketing in 1980.     

He was married to Kim Patrice Hughes from December 30, 1982, to December 1996.  No children were born to this union, however, as husband and wife, Michael and Kim raised her two sons, Sean Christopher Atkinson and Patrick Jermain Hughes.                                                                                                      

He worked at United Parcel Service (UPS) and Roadway Trucklines from 1974 to 1986.  He was also a substitute teacher in the Kansas City, Missouri Public School District from 1980 to 1986.  Ultimately, he built a 35-year career working at the United States Postal Service (USPS) from November 1986 to February 2021 when he retired.

Michael had an incredible memory and loved old classic movies, especially westerns. He could recite the exact year old movies were first released, exactly who the starring actors were, other movies they starred in and how long their careers lasted.  He could also recite (on demand) names, birthdates, and ages of almost every grandparent, uncle, aunt, and cousin in the family.  He could recall significant worldly events and the precise year those events occurred. 

Michael was a loving, caring and generous brother, father, uncle, and friend.  Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Bertha Love, and sister Gracie Belinda Love.  He is survived by two brothers: Norbert L. Love (and wife Shannon Love) of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Derrick D. Love (and wife Gina M. Love) of Overland Park, Kansas; two stepsons Sean Christopher Atkinson of Spring Hill, Kansas and Patrick Jermaine Hughes of Overland Park, Kansas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins..

Funeral Service will Saturday, July 9, at 11:00am at Watkins Heritage Chapel.  Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation 9:00am-11:00am at the chapel  Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
