Obituary

Broderick Crawford, passed away on November 27, 2022, at the home.

Broderick Rayfel Crawford, born June 20, 1961, was the first-
born child of Luther and Beverly Crawford. Broderick’s first

home was 1222 Richmond Ave, Kansas City, Kansas where he
would affectionately come to be known as, “number one”, a
title given him by his late father, but soon appropriated by
his six siblings.
Broderick displayed a bold and tenacious enthusiasm for life
in his early years. He could often be found roughhousing with
his siblings or playing sports with them from one end of the
street to the other. In school, he excelled both academically,
as well as socially, and when not at home or in school,
Broderick could be found at church.

Broderick had little choice but to be raised in the church as God has always been central to
the Crawford family. He was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost by the age of 15.
Broderick grew in character as he served in multiple capacities since 1974. He served as a
member of the Youth and Adult Choir, Usher Board, Church Van Driver, Executive Board
Member and Secretary, Men’s Ministry, Altar Evangelism, Health & Wellness Director and
Unsheltered Sunday Morning Breakfast Director. The church would imbue a strong sense
of community into Broderick and help him to form the strong foundation of faith which
would carry him through life.
The Spring of 1980 saw Broderick driving to Kansas University (KU) in a car gifted him by
his grandparents, the late Gracie Lee and Doyle Crawford. Broderick “Jap” Crawford
pledged Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. as a freshmen with 10 other Kansas University
freshmen and one sophomore at the Mu Chapter. He was the Kaptain of Kappa Ship
Destiny...alias the dirty dozen and this relationship has led to lifelong brotherhood and
friendship with his sands for over 42 years. (See Fraternity Bio).
After college, Broderick went on to establish himself in the health field working for many
years with a vast number of doctors, nurses, and medical staff at KU Medical Center, St.
Luke’s Medical System and many others.
