Leroy C. Reed went home to be with his lord and savior on December 26, 2018, after fighting a bout with cancer. He passed away at home with his loving wife LaVon Reed by his side.
He was born on September 1, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri to Ina Mae Hicks and Leroy Reed, Sr. He was preceded in death by both parents. Leroy married the love of his life, LaVon Elam Poindexter, October 20, 1979. Leroy’s favorite saying is “she is the boss, “pointing to LaVon as she replies, “No, it’s not me.”
He worked hard to provide for his family. He worked at David Beatte Stereo for fifteen years installing sound systems. Later he retired from standard Motor after twenty-four years. After retirement, he found a job part-time with MVP, a job that he really enjoyed, that kept him busy. MVP wasn’t the only thing Leroy enjoyed, he loved to camp, fish and to go bowling.
Leroy accepted the Lord as his savior at an early age. He rededicated his life to Christ at Fresh Start Church. He was faithful in ministries for 16 years. He loved singing in the Men’s and Gospel Choir. Leroy and LaVon served side- by-side in ministry, benevolence, food pantries, and the Willa Gill Outreach for the homeless. He loved to welcome people into the House of the Lord as a greeter. In 2014, Leroy and LaVon relocated to Lenexa, Kansas. In 2016, they became members of Community Covenant Church where he attended the early morning men’s bible study. Leroy was a faithful member and loved by many at Community Covenant Church.
