Sarah Oglesby UpdykeApril 11, 1934 ~ December 29, 2017 (age 83)
Sarah Updyke of Kansas City, Missouri passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Hospice House on December 29, 2017.
Sarah was born on April 11, 1934, to the union of Ernest and Jamesetta Hill.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Jamesetta Hill, three husbands, James Aldridge, Theodore Oglesby, and James Updyke, her daughter, Diane Evelyn Aldridge, her brother, Ernest Hill, two grandsons, Dominick Perkins and Jason Nelson, and two nephews, Percel McFadden and Melvin McFadden.
She accepted Christ at an early age at Second Baptist Church.
Sarah was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri School District. She attended Attucks Elementary and Lincoln High Schools. She was employed at Betty Rose Garment Factory, J & B Toy Factory, and Prime Health. Sarah later become a Caregiver for her daughter, Teal Hicks. Sarah was a member of the S.W. Bacote Missionary Circle at Second Baptist Church. Her favorite past times were cooking, sewing, dancing, and attending activities hosted by her high school class.
Sarah married James Aldridge and to this union three children were born: Diane Evelyn, Dorance Alfred, and James Elbert Aldridge, Jr. This marriage was dissolved, and later Sarah married Theodore Oglesby. The union was blessed with two daughters, April Denise Oglesby and Teal Yvonne Hicks. Later, Sarah met and later married James Updyke, who was the love of her life.
Sarah Louise Hill Aldridge Oglesby Updyke leaves to cherish her loving memory, her sister, Melba V. McFadden; two sons, Dorance Aldridge and wife, Brenda and James Aldridge Jr.; two daughters, April Oglesby and Teal Hicks; two granddaughters, Aina Smith and husband Joel, and Jade Hicks; three grandsons, Joe Oglesby, James Aldridge, III, and Cydney Aldridge; two nieces, Gwendolyn O’Hara and Patrice Stevens; one nephew, Bryan Hill and wife Barbara; and a host of great-grand and great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial Service for Sarah Louise Hill Aldridge Oglesby Updyke will be held Friday, January 5, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at Second Baptist Church, 3620 East 39th St.
