Samuel GriddineJuly 28, 1934 ~ January 9, 2018 (age 83)
Samuel T. Griddine, Sr., 83, went home to be with our Lord on January 9, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at Saint Luke’s Hospice House.
Samuel was born on July 28,1934, to Ullysees and Nadine Griddine during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl of 1934. Samuel was the youngest of nine children who quickly grew into a strong, athletic young man who attended R.T. Coles High School.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, son, Sam Griddine, Jr., daughter, Sheila Clark, grandson, Emmanuel Boyd, and daughter-in-law, Janet Griddine.
Growing up during hard times played a big part in forging Samuel’s strength of character, yet he never lost his soft touch or positive attitude and remained kind and good natured to his dying day.
After high school, Samuel began his thirty-two-year career with the City of Kansas City, Missouri. He met and later married Margaret, the love of his life, on June 17,1955. Together they raised eight children to follow the ways of the Lord and be faithful in church. Brother Sam served on the Board of Directors of Calvary Temple Church and was a beloved Elder at Grace Assembly of God in his later years. Whether it was printing the Messenger, bagging the Christmas treats, or helping the less fortunate through the Care People Program, Brother Sam was always there to help. He was a good Samaritan to stranded motorists or souls; it didn’t matter when or where, as long as he was able to spread love and kindness to anyone he encountered. Always a student of God’s word, Sam made sure to be a doer and not a hearer only! He and Margaret enjoyed a full life together and were legends in the roller skating world, or at least it seemed that way, because they would glide across the floor with graceful dance moves that left young and old in awe of their artistic perfection. Family reunions and game nights were some of Sam’s favorite ways to spend time with those he loved.
Samuel T. Griddine, Sr. leaves behind his sisters, Esther Harrell and Lucille Rowens of Kansas City, Missouri; his sister-in-law, Norma Jean Brooks of Moreno Valley, California; children: Jean Wright (Dennis) and LaTonya Boyd (Mercurvus) both of Kansas City, Missouri, Michael Griddine, Sr. (LaTonya) of Belton, Missouri, Reginald Griddine (Angel) of Bastrop, Texas, Timothy Griddine, Sr., of Kansas City, Missouri and Terri Green (Kenny) of Raymore, Missouri; twenty-seven grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends to mourn his passing. There’s no doubt Samuel T. Griddine, Sr. was welcomed into heaven with the Lord saying, “well-done thou good and faithful servant.”
